To assist participants in meeting the challenges, BRLT will provide a hiking log, a kayaking log, a birding list, and a plant list. For each challenge met, participants will receive a customized pewter lapel pin courtesy of the land trust. BRLT will list those who meet each challenge in the Boothbay Register at year’s end. A limited edition “30 For 30 Challenge” embroidered BRLT hat will be given to each person who meets all four challenges.
There is no cost to participate or for any of the challenge materials. In April, a 30th Anniversary Edition full-color, spiral bound durable trail guide containing new topographical trail maps, stunning photos, preserve information and charts for recording birds and plant life will be for sale.
The Boothbay Register has agreed to feature each of the 17 BRLT preserves in a special spotlight section throughout the year. The spotlight will include the length and level of difficulty of each trail, kayak access points, which trails are bike, horse and dog friendly, and the birds and plants likely to be found. As always, BRLT will be offering free guided hikes and kayak tours throughout the calendar year to provide assistance and camaraderie in meeting the challenge.
“30 For 30” participants can share their progress and experiences at Boothbay Region Land Trust’s Facebook Group. Updates on the community’s involvement will be featured in the Boothbay Register and the land trust’s newsletter, website and Facebook group. Take it outside in 2010 with BRLT. For more information call 633-4818 or stop by the land trust’s office at 137 Townsend Ave. in downtown Boothbay Harbor across from the Seagate Motel.
