The Opportunity...

Remember Tibbetts Pond, Ocean Point's 4.46-acre ecological treasure donated to Boothbay Region Land Trust (BRLT) by Rachel Tibbetts in 2007?

Wouldn't it be great if this scenic haven for birds and other wildlife, popular site for bird watchers and hangout for neighborhood ice skaters could be expanded to become a larger protected preserve?

That's just what BRLT has in mind in signing contracts to buy two adjoining, undeveloped properties totaling 21.2 acres.

Located in the largest wetland area on Linekin Neck in East Boothbay, the properties consist of a 15-acre piece owned by Arlene V. Reed that abuts and wraps around the rear of Tibbetts Pond and an adjoining 6.2 parcel owned by Reed's son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Norma Dodge. The three properties, totaling 25.66 acres, all front on Van Horn Road. The combined acreage would be suitable for a trail and buffering system surrounding the pond. All

three properties lie within the Ocean Point Focus Area identified for the land trust by outside consultants as desirable for permanent protection.
